Colonic & Rectal Surgery

Laparoscopic & open surgery for colon & rectal cancers/tumours and polyps, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s & Ulcerative Colitis) and diverticular disease.

Colonoscopy

Investigation of rectal bleeding, passing rectal mucous, change in bowel habit (persistent diarrhoea, new onset & persistent constipation), +/-abdominal pain, positive faecal occult blood test (National Bowel Cancer Screening Program), abnormalities seen on imaging, unexplained anaemia & loss of weight.

Screening or surveillance for bowel cancer/polyps in patients who have had previous colonic polyps/cancer, patients with a family history of bowel cancer or who have long-term inflammatory bowel disease.

Therapeutic indications include removing known colonic polyps, dilating colonic or rectal strictures.

Trans-anal Minimally Invasive Surgery (TAMIS & taTME)

TAMIS for large rectal polyps or small/early stage rectal cancers.
taTME (Hybrid trans-anal minimally invasive surgery combined with either laparoscopic or open surgery for larger rectal cancers).

Small Bowel Surgery

Crohn’s disease, Meckel’s diverticulum, small bowel tumours & strictures, adhesions.

Anal surgery

Haemorrhoidectomy, anal fissures, anal cancer/AIN, fistula, abscesses, skin tags, warts etc.

Rectal Prolapse Surgery

Abdominal & perineal (anal) procedures.

Rectocele Surgery

Trans-anal approach.

Faecal Incontinence

Assessment (including 3-D endo-anal ultrasound) and both operative & non-operative management.

Pilonidal Sinus Surgery

Limberg flap/Rhomboid flap.

Functional Bowel Diseases

Constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, solitary rectal ulcer syndrome, proctalgia fugax.
